Transparency Code
Aston le Walls Parish Council has adopted the Transparency Code for Smaller Authorities, published by the Department for Communities and Local Government in December 2014.
GDPR
On 25 May 2018 a sweeping new European regulation took effect – the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The GDPR provides the basic rules which helpfully lay the groundwork for more ethical approaches to data collection and processing. This gives everyone meaningful controls and sensible privacy settings about any data that an organisation may hold about them.
At the Parish Council meeting in May 2018 (agenda) a Data Protection Officer was appointed and a series of policies, procedures, notices and other GDPR-related documents were approved to ensure Aston le Walls council meets the new regulations.
You can find the relevant documents here. They include: Consent Form, Data Map, Data Protection Policy, Subject Access Request Procedure, Data Breach Policy, Records Retention Policy and Privacy Notices.
As Aston le Walls Parish Council does not process personal information on a computer it is under no requirement to register as a Data Controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). The council will review this situation periodically by re-running the ICO self-assessment tool at least every 2 years. Aston le Walls Parish Council may still register with ICO voluntarily at a later date as we do hold personal data about individuals.
During September 2019 two councillors independently checked whether there was a need for the Parish Council to register as a Data Controller with ICO. Both concluded that we were still exempt from needing to do so.
We aim to publish as much information as we can online. However, some items are only available in print. You should be aware that the Council is entitled to withhold certain information. Please check the Documents section for “Policies”, “Procedures” and “GDPR” documents.
